Grace Community Church
We are a Bible based Family centred evangelical church.
Our purpose and aims are:
TO LOVE AND ENJOY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST,
Where did we come from?
In 1994 Grace Community Church was formed by our senior pastor, John Gillespie.
In 1996, having been homeless for several months after leaving its former Methodist premises, the church eventually secured a farmhouse and potato storage barn in the village of Morval 2.5 miles from the fishing village and seaside resort of Looe.
The barn was converted on the inside into a church building by an economical method that left the outside still looking like an agricultural building. This provides Mr Gillespie with an apt illustration to regularly remind his people in the style of the letters to the seven churches of Revelation that they must remain faithful or the Lord will turn the building back into a potato shed.
Seven years ago an adjoining 7acre field was purchased and prayerfully the plan to hold a Bible Week was hatched. The first Grace Family Bible Week took place in the summer of 2003. Please see www.gfbw.org.uk for details.
In February 2006 we extended our family and planted a second church in Torpoint, East Cornwall. God has really blessed this venture with growth well beyond our prayers. Torpoint - and the potential for a plant from Torpoint is presently being prayerfully considered.
In January this year our second church plant opened in Bodmin, Central Cornwall.
The Grace Community Church family now extends to over 300 worshipping children and adults.
In the latter part of 2006 a planning application to expand our site here at Morval to accommodate additional worshippers met with some local objections and was, eventually after considerable public debate and prayer, turned down.
In 2008 a scaled down planning application focusing on improved accommodation for our young worshippers (Sunday School and Youth Rooms) was unanimously approved by the District Council.
As a family of churches our desire is to take Jesus Christ into our communities. These are exciting and challenging times – would you like to join us? |
